Tiered Readings are an open-access collection of leveled Latin readings designed to help learners build reading fluency and comprehension by offering multiple versions of the same text at increasing levels of difficulty. Starting with simplified, learner-friendly tiers and progressing toward more complex, authentic language, these readings support students as they move from basic understanding to higher-level engagement with classical texts — including AP-level selections as well as mythological, historical, and informational passages. The digital platform is built with learner tools like collapsible tiers and instant word definitions to keep learners focused on reading in the target language, making the process of encountering challenging Latin more accessible and effective.
VERBA is a fast-paced, classroom-friendly language learning card game that turns meaningful input into play. VERBA helps learners build comprehension and confidence by combining high-frequency vocabulary with simple, contextualized sentences. Players collaborate and compete to create the best sentence completions, reinforcing core language structures naturally and repeatedly. Easy to learn, quick to play, and grounded in research-based pedagogy, VERBA makes language acquisition engaging, social, and effective—perfect for classrooms, clubs, or anyone who believes learning works best when it feels like a game.
Underlings of Underwing is an award-winning, educational worker-placement board game from The Pericles Group in which 1–6 players gather elemental crystals and strategically assign dragon-handler “underlings” to hatch eggs and earn Dragon Points. Blending resource management, set collection, and color-theory mechanics within a whimsical fantasy theme, the game challenges players to optimize their placements and combinations to hatch the most valuable dragons and become Underwing’s next great Dragonlord.
CARD-tamen is an educational, debate-based card game where players engage in lively rhetorical “battles” by arguing for the importance of the historical, cultural, or conceptual figures on their cards. Designed so that learning and winning go hand-in-hand, players draw a controversy (like “more significant to history”), select a card from their hand, and then make their case—within a time limit—to persuade a judge that their card best addresses the topic. With themed decks (e.g., Rome, Greece, science, history) that can mix together for rich, cross-disciplinary play, CARD-tamen makes classroom discussion and content mastery fun, social, and intellectually engaging.
Picturae Digital Assets is a project that focuses on curating, preserving, and making accessible rich collections of digital imagery and related media for educational and cultural use. As part of The Pericles Group’s mission to support learners and educators, it provides a searchable repository of visual resources—digitized images and assets—that can be used to enhance instruction, research, and engagement with historical and cultural content across languages and disciplines.
Operation LAPIS is a two-year, practomimetic (game-based) Latin curriculum that immerses learners in a collaborative, story-driven adventure to master Latin language and Roman culture. Instead of a traditional textbook, students are “recruited” as operatives on a mission to find the Lapis Saeculōrum, working in teams to read, write, and interpret Latin within an evolving narrative that spans the ancient Roman world. Through role-playing, quests, and integrated cultural content, LAPIS blends gameplay with real language objectives, making learning Latin interactive, meaningful, and deeply engaging.
